To understand how to develop our work, we have learnt how to critique our own and other peoples. The reasons we do this is to help us improve the pieces we have created and analyse them; to allow other peoples ideas and images to inspire our own; to discover problems within our work and figure ways to overcome it and finally to see if people can understand the message you are trying to convey and realise the strengths and weaknesses.
The four key features there are to analyse within a photo are: 1) Personal response: - How does it make you feel? - Impressions and feelings? - Impact it makes? - Does it give you a sense of time? - Photographers or artists that relate? 2) Object: - What technical features are used to make the photo? - Why it works? - Why not? - Planning procedure? - Thought process? - Equipment used? - What could of worked better? 3) Subject: - What is the photo of? - What are you trying to convey? - What is the message? 4) Context: - What is going on around the image? - How is it displayed? - What will it be used for?
By learning this it helps me to answer these questions even before the critique to help improve the photo myself and allow for even more development.
